It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since we started to promote Transit Driver Appreciation Day in Ontario. It was called “Bus Driver Appreciation Day” back in 2014 when we started to spread the word about the day, which was found online in 2013.

At that point none of the transit agencies in Ontario celebrated the day and now, five years later many do.

On March 18th, join us in celebrating the contributions of our hard-working bus drivers and rail operators! That could be as simple as a smile and a wave when you board the bus or train, and a “thank you” when you leave. And, don’t forget to submit an official commendation for a job well done, so your drivers can be formally recognized for their efforts. (You can do that any time of year!)

Consider this: For hours on end, transit drivers manage to keep a schedule, check fares, give directions, announce stops, remember stop requests and more, all while safely maneuvering an extra-large vehicle through unpredictable traffic, adverse weather conditions and some really tight spaces! The fact is, transit drivers don’t have an easy job, they just make it look that way.

Transit Driver Appreciation Day is on March 18th, but we’re celebrating it on Friday, March 17th this year. You can also print out and personalize any of the thank-you cards below to show your appreciation in person, and you can help spread the word. 2014 Transit Driver Appreciation Day in Hamilton

Last year I missed this event, which was called Bus Driver Appreciation Day. It late March last year when I happened upon the website about the event. I was surprised that I had missed it and hadn’t seen nor heard anything about it from any of the other transit agencies in the region. I’ve been very active on the @HSRTransit Twitter account and am on there virtually all day, but none of the Twitter accounts from other transit agencies or municipalities sent out anything.
