With the extreme cold set to chill the region down over the next few days, the Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton has issued a Cold Weather Alert effective February 5, 2014. A Cold Alert is issued when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below minus 15 degrees Celsius or minus 20 with wind chill.

As an effort to ease the burden of transit users waiting out in the cold both the City of Hamilton will be keeping their heated passenger waiting area open later on extremely cold nights. The City of Hamilton has stated that the MacNab Transit Terminal building open until the last bus departs at 1:20am on every evening during a cold weather alert.

Next Bus Information Screen Now LIVE at MacNab Terminal

The next bus information screen at MacNab Transit Terminal went live on January 31st, 2014.

After several months of waiting the new next bus information signs went live today at the MacNab Transit Terminal in downtown Hamilton. The signs complete the terminal and are the final piece, after the platform level ‘next bus’ signs were switched on earlier in the month.

The large, full colour display shows the scheduled arrival times for all of the buses which use the terminal, as well as frequently used routes which pass by on King and Main Streets. 1 KING, 5 DELAWARE and 10 B-LINE EXPERSS are also displayed on the screen. In addition to the bus information the date, time, current temperature and upcoming local weather is also displayed on the screen.

Next Bus Signing at MacNab Terminal Ready by October

macnab_terminal_display_installation
If you’ve been to the terminal building at the MacNab Transit Terminal in the last two weeks you’ve likely already seen the large display screen on the wall. The video display wall was installed on August 26th and will display next bus information for buses in and around the terminal.

In addition to the screens there will also be display signs installed at the platforms of the terminal as well. These signs are scheduled to be installed by mid-September with the whole system up and running by the end of the month. Staff will need a couple of weeks to test them before they’re fully operational so it may be early October before they’re ready for use.

Next Bus Signs coming to MacNab Terminal

Finding out next bus times for transit customers using MacNab Terminal could become a whole lot easier this fall.

A report from the Public Works Department was presented to the Public Works Committee at City Hall Monday morning. The report proposes the purchase and instillation of ‘next bus’ display screens at each platform of the terminal. Also included in the project are large display screens within the terminal passenger building with upcoming arrival times for the next several buses for all routes stopping at the terminal. Routes passing near the terminal would also be listed.

The signs would display the departure time of the next bus at the stop. In case of a delay, through the GPS installed on every bus, the system could display an updated arrival of the next bus in real time.
