Track level rendering of the James North GO Station

GO Transit will start construction of the James North GO Station very soon and has erected a sign on the property with the above image. The city has also posted on their website that Stuart Street, between Bay Street and MacNab Street will be closed for one week beginning on Monday for “GO Transit works.”

The station will be located at 353 James Street North right across from LIUNA Station, the former CN train station which served trains before GO Transit moved operations to Hunter Street and VIA removed Hamilton as a stop. The station will be built in two phases. The first phase involves constructing a new station building, fully-accessible north and south rail platforms, a Kiss & Ride, new parking lot, a bus loop and pedestrian/bicycle pathways. Once that phase is completed in the summer of 2015, the second phase will involve constructing pedestrian bridges or tunnels to provide more convenient customer access to the train platforms.

James North GO Facts and Reasons

Metrolinx took part in a community meeting on Tuesday May 28th at Liuna Station, across the street from the location of the future James North GO Station. A large turnout of people attended the meeting and brought forth a great number of questions about the proposed station.

A good number of the questions came up about the reasoning for the new station beyond the Pan Am Games and the necessity for a new station in Hamilton.

The new station is being built to compliment the Hamilton GO Centre, but the addition of the new station is actually more out of necessity than convenience for the new Pan Am Games.

GO Transit Reveals James North Plans

GO Transit showed off the latest designs and renderings for their proposed James North GO Station on April 30th. The new design is very different from the original drawings from a year earlier and include much more surface parking as well as a public plaza area.

The new GO station will be located at 353 James Street North in Hamilton and is being constructed for 2015 and will provide increased service to Hamilton in support of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games. Once operational in 2015, it will help deliver more integrated and effective public transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
