Burlington Transit Route 1/1X PLAINS and Route 101 PLAINS EXPRESS Changes starting September 2nd

Burlington Transit is making minor changes to routes 1 PLAINS and 101 PLAINS EXPRESS. To help improve the reliability of Route 1/1x and Route 101, the following changes are being made, effective Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018.

Route schedules are not affected by these changes.

Route 101 Express

Starting on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, Route 101 PLAINS EXPRESS will become an express route between Hamilton and Burlington and will make fewer stops.

Routes 4/7/8 Detoured Evening of March 26th due to Garth Brooks Concert

Garth Brooks has two concerts scheduled for the evening of Saturday, March 26th at First Ontario Centre. During the transition from the first concert ending and the second one beginning, Hamilton Police expect a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.

As a result, Bay Street will be closed to all traffic between King Street and York Blvd. from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

As a result, routes 4 BAYFRONT, 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, and 1 PLAINS (Burlington Transit) buses will be on detour.

Bay Street Closure Detours Routes 4/7/8 on September 26th

Bay Street will be closed between York Blvd. and King Street as a result of celebrations for the Hamilton Bulldogs home opener on Saturday, September 26th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.

As a result, routes 4 BAYFRONT, 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, and 1 PLAINS (Burlington Transit) buses will be on detour.

Bay Street Closure Detours Routes 4/7/8/99 on August 20th

On Thursday, August 20th, 2015, Kenny Chesney will be performing at the First Ontario Centre (Copps Coliseum). As part of the pre-show festivities, Bay Street between King Street and York Boulevard will be closed to all traffic between 9:30am and 11:00pm.

As a result, routes 4 BAYFRONT, 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE buses will be on detour.

City of Burlington and Transit Workers, represented by CUPE Local 2723, reach a tentative settlement

A tentative settlement was reached today between the City of Burlington and the members of CUPE Local 2723, representing Burlington Transit workers.

The union will be holding a ratification meeting on July 12. Both parties have been ordered by the conciliator to respect a full blackout on any details of the settlement until the day of ratification. Both parties fully recommend the tentative deal.

The union has informed the city that if the tentative settlement is rejected by the union members, a transit strike would start effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 13.

Burlington Transit Workers, represented by CUPE Local 2723, turned down a recommended settlement

Burlington Transit workers, represented by CUPE Local 2723, tonight turned down a negotiated settlement reached by the union and the City of Burlington on June 30 and recommended to the members.

Negotiations will continue, and transit services will operate as usual at this time.

2015 Around the Bay Road Race Burlington Transit Detours on March 29th

This summarizes detours due to the Around the Bay Road Race. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30k run (approximately 9,000 runners entered) and a 5k run (approximately 2,500 runners entered).

THIRTY KILOMETRE RACE

The 30K race will start at York and Caroline at 9:30 AM and will continue east on York, north on James, east on Guise, east on Dock Service Road, south on Ferguson and east on Burlington Street. The race will then exit Burlington Street to Woodward Avenue and then continue with the routing that has been used in previous years.

No traffic will be allowed through on the cross streets while the runners are on James (Cannon and Barton) at the start of the race for a period of about 15-20 minutes while the runners clear the intersections.

Juno Awards Detour Routes 4/7/8 from March 13th – 15th

The Canadian Juno Awards are being held in Hamilton on the weekend of March 13th to 15th, 2015. There are a number of events scheduled that will impact HSR regular routes over the course of the weekend:

  • York Blvd. will be closed between Bay Street and MacNab Street from Friday, March 13th at 7:00pm to Monday, March 16th at 2:00am for various events over the weekend
  • Bay Street will be closed between King Street and York Blvd. on Sunday, March 15th between 3:00pm and 11:00pm for the Juno Awards event at First Ontario Centre.

Two different sets of detours will be operated over the weekend:

2014 Hamilton Santa Clause Parade Burlington Transit Detours – November 22nd

On Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 the City of Hamilton will be holding the Santa Parade in downtown Hamilton. Due to the parade a large portion of the downtown will be closed for several hours.

Due to this closure, multiple routes will need to be temporarily detoured, including Burlington Transit route 1 PLAINS. The detour is as follows below:

Upcoming Burlington Transit Changes

On November 3rd, 2013 Burlington Transit will be undergoing a major change of their transit route structure, which will affect routes that interact with HSR services. The changes include alterations to routes 1 PLAINS and 101 PLAINS EXPRESS, both of which travel to downtown Hamilton.

Other route changes affect those services which use the Burlington Downtown Bus Terminal. HSR route 11 PARKDALE also services this station.
