Around the Bay Road Race detours multiple routes March 26th

This summarizes detours due to the Around the Bay Road Race. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30k run (approximately 9,000 runners entered) and a 5k run (approximately 2,500 runners entered).

THIRTY KILOMETRE RACE

The 30K race will start at York and Caroline and will continue east on York, north on James and east on Burlington Street (the diversion via Guise and Dock Service Road will not be used this year). The race will then exit Burlington Street to Woodward Avenue and then continue with the routing that has been used in previous years.

At 9:30 AM, the race starts at York/Caroline and proceeds as described above. No traffic will be allowed through on the cross streets while the runners are on James (Cannon and Barton) at the start of the race for a period of about 15-20 minutes while the runners clear the intersections.

March 24th – 2013 Around the Bay – East End Detours

There will be significant detours in the east end due to the Around the Bay Road Race. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30 km run (approximately 8,000 runners entered) and a 5 km run (approximately 2,000 runners entered).

THIRTY KILOMETRE RACE – EAST END
Sunday, March 24th, 2013
The race starts on York Blvd. at Caroline Street at 9:30 AM. The following road and lane closures will result: York Blvd., all eastbound lanes between Hess and James. Wilson Street, all eastbound lanes between James and Sherman. Sherman Avenue, all northbound lanes between Wilson and Cannon. Cannon Street/Britannia Avenue, eastbound lanes only, between Sherman and Parkdale. Parkdale Avenue, northbound lanes only, will be closed between Queenston and Melvin. Melvin Avenue, only one westbound lane will be kept open, between Parkdale and Woodward. Woodward Avenue, only one southbound lane will be kept open, between Melvin and Beach Blvd. No vehicle access will be allowed westbound on Barton beyond Red Hill Valley Parkway, due to problems that have arisen in the past at the intersection of Barton and Woodward. Beach Blvd., Burlington bound lanes only, will be closed between Woodward and Eastport Drive.

March 24th – 2013 Around the Bay – Downtown Detours

There will be significant detours in the downtown area due to the Around the Bay Road Race on Sunday. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30 km run (approximately 8,000 runners entered) and a 5 km run (approximately 2,000 runners entered). The routing is the same as last year with the event finishing inside Copps Coliseum. The start point for the 30k race is at York and Caroline while the 5k start point will be on York just west of Bay.

This notice describes the route detours that the HSR will be operating in the downtown area for both events.

The following events will take place in the downtown area as a result of the Around the Bay Road Race. Registration for the runners will begin at 7:00 AM on Sunday, at which time York Boulevard (between Hess and MacNab) will be closed to all traffic. This section of road will not reopen until after the completion of the race at approximately 3:00 PM.
