2016 Labour Day Parade Downtown Detours

The 2016 Hamilton Labour Day parade will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM. The parade will assemble on York Blvd. between Dundurn and Queen starting at 9:00 AM.

At 10:30 AM, the parade will travel south on Queen, east on Main, north on Bay, and west on York Blvd. to Dundurn Park. The parade will arrive at Dundurn Park at approximately 12:30 PM. The parade will result in the closure of the following streets between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM. Please note that HSR buses will be allowed to proceed on Main eastbound as far as the intersection at Queen Street.

  • York Blvd. between Dundurn and Bay
  • Bay Street between Main and Cannon
  • Queen Street between York Blvd. and Main
  • Cannon Street between Bay and Queen
  • Main Street between Queen and Bay
  • King Street between Queen and MacNab

Due to the road closures routes 4 BAYFRONT, 5 DELAWARE (all branches), 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, 9 ROCK GARDENS, 34 UPPER PARADISE and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE will be detoured between approximately 9:30am until 12:00pm.

Bay Street will be closed between York Boulevard and King Street as a result of celebrations for the final Tragically Hip Concert in Hamilton on Tuesday, August 16th from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Due to the road closures routes 4 BAYFRONT, 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE will be on detour.

Bay Street Closure Detours Routes 4/7/8/99 on August 20th

On Thursday, August 20th, 2015, Kenny Chesney will be performing at the First Ontario Centre (Copps Coliseum). As part of the pre-show festivities, Bay Street between King Street and York Boulevard will be closed to all traffic between 9:30am and 11:00pm.

As a result, routes 4 BAYFRONT, 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE buses will be on detour.

Events Sunday may Delay Routes Downtown

In addition to the closure of James Street North for Open Streets Hamilton, two other events in downtown Hamilton on Sunday may cause delays to multiple routes.

2015 Open Streets Hamilton Event Detours Multiple Routes June 28th

Open Streets Hamilton is taking place on Sunday, June 28th, 2015 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and will result in the closure of James between York Blvd / Wilson Street and Strachan Street.

East/West cross traffic will be maintained by Hamilton Police at Cannon and Barton.

James North Construction Detours Routes 4,20,99 from Aug 11th – Nov 30th

Effective Monday, August 11th, 2014 and until approximately Sunday, November 30th, 2014 weather permitting, James Street North between Barton Street and Strachan Street will be closed due to construction.

The work involves road and sidewalk reconstruction and watermain replacement. Urban Braille sidewalk and decorative concrete boulevards will be installed from Barton Street to the new GO station. Traffic calming bumpouts (curb extensions) will also be installed at the intersection of James and Strachan to narrow the crossing distance for pedestrians.

Routes 4 BAYFRONT, 20 A-LINE EXPRESS and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE will be on detour during these times. The details of the detour routings and specific dates are as follows below:

Partial James North Closure July 12th Detours Routes 2,3,4,99

There is crane work occuring on James Street, between Vine Street and York Blvd.,/Wilson Street on Saturday, July 12th, 2014 from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This will result in the full closure of James along this section during the times indicated.

During this time it will be necessary to detour routes 2 BARTON, 3 CANNON, 4 BAYFRONT and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE.

Open Streets Hamilton Event Detours Multiple Routes July 13th

Open Streets Hamilton is taking place on Sunday, July 13th, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will result in the closure of James between Guise and King Street (north branch).

East/West cross traffic will be maintained by Hamilton Police at King, York/Wilson, Cannon, Barton and Burlington. To assist HSR buses in making the left turn from westbound King to southbound James, there will be two police officers present at the intersection. However, Operators are asked to use extreme caution while making this turn due to the increased number of pedestrians in the area.
