The road will be closed to all through traffic and only local traffic (residents and customers of nearby businesses) will be permitted access until the project is completed later this summer. The section of Kenilworth Avenue between Beach Road and Burlington Street will remain open for the duration of the project.

Due to this closure, route 41 MOHAWK will be on detour.

detour_small

At 7:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23rd Hamilton’s Public Works Department will close all lanes of the Kenilworth Access as part of the ongoing rock scaling and cleanup work that began last week after a rock slide occurred along the escarpment.

The upbound lanes were closed immediately last Thursday and the downbound lanes must also be shut down so crews can safely remove large rocks and other materials from the escarpment. Given the volume and size of the rocks that need to be removed, there is a concern that this material may cross into the downbound lanes during the operation, putting public safety at risk.

The downbound lanes are expected to remain closed for approximately one week, while the upbound lanes will remain closed for three weeks.

Southbound 41 MOHAWK detoured due to Kenilworth Access Rock Slide [REVISED 06/01 Update #3]

Due to a rock slide on the Kenilworth Mountain Access, southbound 41 MOHAWK buses are being detoured as the upbound lanes are closed. The detour has been revised as of May 19th again and all southbound stops on Upper Ottawa between Mountain Brow and Mohawk are once again out of service.

North/eastbound routing is unaffected by this temporary emergency detour.

The upbound lanes of the Kenilworth Access are expected to remain closed for three weeks so crews can safely complete a significant rock scaling and cleanup operation following yesterday’s rock slide.
