Main Street East Closed Today Due to Demonstration

An Aboriginal demonstration today has resulted in the closure of Main Street East between James and John Streets. The city announced the possible closure on Thursday, and this morning Hamilton Police actioned the closure to ensure the safety of participants.

The roadway is expected to remain closed until 7:00pm.

During this closure all HSR buses, which ordinarily use this roadway, are being detoured via the following route:

2014 Labour Day Parade Downtown Detours

The 2014 Hamilton Labour Day parade will be held on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 9:30am until 12:00pm. The parade will assemble on York Blvd. between Dundurn and Queen starting at 9:00am.

At 10:30 AM, the parade will travel south on Queen, east on Main, north on Bay, and west on York Blvd. to Dundurn Park. The parade will arrive at Dundurn Park at approximately 12:00 PM. The parade will result in the closure of the following streets between 9:30am and 12:00pm.

  • York Blvd. between Dundurn and Bay
  • Bay Street between Main and Cannon
  • Main Street between Queen and MacNab
  • King Street between Queen and MacNab

Due to the road closures routes 4 BAYFRONT, 5 DELAWARE (all branches), 7 LOCKE, 8 YORK, 9 ROCK GARDENS, 34 UPPER PARADISE and 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE will be detoured between approximately 9:30am until 12:00pm.

2014 Scout Parade Detours – May 24th

Due to the 76th Annual Scout & Guide Parade on Saturday, May 24th, 2014 there will be several road closures in downtown Hamilton from approximately 8:45am until 11:30am. During the event thousands of youth and leaders from all around Battlefields Council will march down Main St. in Hamilton past City Hall.

During the events the following roads will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the parade period:

– Locke Street North from York Blvd to Main Street West
– Main Street West from Locke Street to MacNab Street
– MacNab Street South from Main Street West to Jackson Street West
– Jackson Street West from MacNab Street West to Hamilton City Hall

Due to the road closures routes 4 BAYFRONT, 5 DELAWARE, 7 LOCKE and 34 UPPER PARADISE will be on detour. No bus traffic will be detoured on King Street West however delays are possible with buses crossing the parade route on Locke Street. Also all buses will operate out of the MacNab Transit Terminal as per normal routing. Hamilton Police will maintain the left turn from the MacNab Terminal roadways to Main Street East during the parade.

Queen St Hill Closed May 10th 7am-1pm

Hamilton’s Public Works Department will close the Queen Street Hill (Beckett Drive) this Saturday, May 10th from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to safely complete rock scaling work along the escarpment edge.  The work is being completed as a precaution following a minor rock slide that occurred in April.  

Traffic will be required to use an alternate route during this time.

Due to the closure, 34 UPPER PARADISE will need to be temporarily detoured during this time.

Film Shoot Detours 34 UPPER PARADISE Apr 26 – May 2

Effective for the start of service on Saturday, April 26, 2014 and until approximately 6:00pm on Friday, May 2, 2014 Queen Street from King Street to Main Street will be closed due to a film production.

Due to the closure, 34 UPPER PARADISE will need to be temporarily detoured during this time.

Queen Street Hill Closed April 22nd

The City of Hamilton will be temporarily closing the Queen Street Hill (Beckett Drive) on Tuesday, April 22nd from 10:00am until noon. The closure comes following a minor rock slide that occurred last week on the Queen Street Hill. Hamilton’s Public Works Department will be undertaking a site inspection during this time as a precaution.

Due to the closure, 34 UPPER PARADISE will need to be temporarily detoured during this time.

James Mountain Road Intermittent Detours

Throughout the summer Beckett Drive, otherwise commonly known as the Queen Street Hill, has been closed to all vehicular traffic since June. During that time route 34 UPPER PARADISE has been on detour using James Mountain Road.

This mountain access has become congested at times due to the increase in general traffic. During times of such congestion the bus routes which use this access will be intermittently detoured via the Jolley Cut. This intermittent detour is expected to conclude once Queen Street Hill reopens.

UPDATED: Charlton Closure Detours Routes 6 & 34 on Saturday

Effective Saturday, September 28, 2013 from approximately 8:00 A.M until 4:00 P.M. Charlton Ave. W. from Park to Caroline will be closed due to sewer works. Therefore, Routes 6 ABERDEEN outbound to Princess Point and 34 UPPER PARADISE inbound to downtown buses will be on detour during this time.

34 UPPER PARADISE Fall Schedule Update

With the delay in completion of the construction of Beckett Drive, route 34 UPPER PARADISE has been affected. The route was planned to resume pre-summer routing and timetable, but the delay has left that plan in limbo.

Below is the reply from the planning department about the status of thee route:

“At this point, the plans have not been finalized for route 34 due to the extended closure of the Queen Street Hill. Once finalized, within the next week or two weeks, the HSR will take the appropriate steps (customer take-one, website updates, etc.) to assure that our customers are informed.

Ride to Conquer Cancer – 33 Sanatorium and 34 Upper Paradise Detour CANCELLED – June 9th

The City of Hamilton will be closing Fennel Avenue West between West 5th Street and Garth Street for the Ride to Conquer Cancer event on the morning of Sunday, June 9th 2013 from 6:00 am – 9:00 am.

UPDATE: Although the road will be closed to all traffic, Hamilton Police will allow HSR buses ONLY on Fennell Avenue between West 5th and Garth on Sunday morning. There may be minor delays especially if a bus is present during the heavy cyclist departure times. The Police will do their best to minimize delays but cannot guarantee it.

On the morning of the event operations will make a decision to implement the detour IF it is deemed necessary.

The below is the planned detour route for routes 33 SANATORIUM and 34 UPPER PARADISE between 6am – 9am. This detour will ONLY be used IF it isn’t possible for buses to safely use Fennell Avenue West.
