Effective Monday, March 2nd, 2015 and until December 2015, Concession Street from Upper Wellington Street to Upper Sherman Avenue will be under construction. This will result in closures of Concession Street during certain stages of the project. At various times, HSR routes will have to detour.

The initial works to be done beginning on March 2, 2015 will only have traffic impacts along Concession Street which will cause delays. Beginning April 7th, 2015 sections of Concession Street will begin to close. Below are the approximate dates and detours of the affected routes.

Construction to begin on Concession Street on March 2nd

On Monday, March 2nd Hamilton’s Public Works Department will begin work on Concession Street between Upper Wellington Street and Upper Sherman Avenue. The project involves water main upgrades and full road reconstruction including new curbs and sidewalks with Urban Braille. As part of the City’s improved pedestrian mobility plan, two new pedestrian-activated crossing signals and new ladder-style crosswalks will also be installed.

There could be delays to HSR routes 23 UPPER GAGE, 24 UPPER SHERMAN and 25 UPPER WENTWORTH during the inital phases of the construction, with detours to the routes during the road closures listed below.

HSR Planning is preparing a notice regarding the closures and subsequent detours for this project, which will be released sometime next week. The detours are planned to begin on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015.

New Limeridge Mall Transit Terminal?

For the last while I’ve been thinking about and going over how to improve the transit terminal at Limeridge Mall. As it stands right now passengers using buses which stop on the west side of the terminal have to cross four lanes of traffic to get to the mall side of the lot. There is no crossing within the terminal to make this safe to do so.

After looking at several different ideas for relocating the terminal I came up with a design that requires that the current terminal be modified with very little change and minimal loss in parking.

I wrote up a proposal detailing my ideas and created several diagrams to go along with it, including the terminal’s current layout, proposed changes and the total number of parking spots which would be lost in the change.

This proposal was sent to Ward 7 Councillor Scott Duvall (councillor for the ward which includes Limeridge Mall) and he forwarded it to the transit department to investigate the possibility.

By copy of this email, Councillor Duvall is requesting that planning staff in Public Transit/HSR give your submission priority and contact you directly with their comments, as well as updating the Councillor.

So, while that in no way means that the changes will become a reality it does go to show that sharing your ideas can help make change.
