Spring 2014 Schedule Changes

The Hamilton Street Railway has issued the Spring 2014 edition of their quarterly Bus News (their website has yet to be updated). Several routes have minor modifications while one route (35 COLLEGE) has reverted to previous routing.

Below are the changes that will take effect Sunday March 23rd, 2014.

Route on the ‘Drawing Board’ to replace Red Hill TransCab

At the GIC budget meeting on February 27th it was mentioned by Don Hull, Director of Transit for the City of Hamilton, that a conventional transit route is on the drawing board which would replace the TransCab service currently servicing the Red Hill Business Park. The service extension has been on the drawing board for some time, but can’t be implemented because of the state of the current roads.

The change would see 22 UPPER OTTAWA extended from it’s current southerly loop point of Nebo and Rymal into the Red Hill Business Park. The bus would travel east on Rymal Road, south on Prichard Road, east on Twenty Road, south on Glover Road, west on Dickenson Road, north on Nebo and end at the Canada Bread Factory. Though Don Hull also mentioned that the HSR is also looking at a route adjustment to 44 RYMAL as well, no further details were revealed about what that might be.

The future intersection of the Dartnall Road Extension and Twenty Road has been identified as a potential future transit hub as it is centrally located within the business park and within an area zoned commercial. TransCab service was introduced on September 4th, 2011 to provide Canada Bread employees at the Nebo Road and Twenty Road facility access to HSR routes 22 UPPER OTTAWA and 44 RYMAL. On December 16th, 2011 City Council directed HSR to extend the TransCab service to allow employees at Countrywide Recycling (900 Nebo Road) to use the service. On January 7th, 2013, in response to concerns raised by Canada Bread management and union, the TransCab service was modified to operate on a fixed schedule.
