Summer 2013 Schedule Changes

The Hamilton Street Railway released their Summer 2013 Bus News. Eleven routes will begin reduced summer schedules while three other routes will have special detour schedules in effect. There are minor schedule changes to nine more routes with several other routes seeing increased service. Route 5 DELAWARE will see increased service throughout the week including more service in Dundas.

Below are the changes that will take effect Sunday June 23rd, 2013.

SUMMER SCHEDULES
The below routes will be on summer schedules from June 23rd through September 1st and will have reduced frequencies on weekdays.

MINOR SERVICE CHANGES

  • 1 KING (Weekdays)
  • 2 BARTON (Weekdays)
  • 11 PARKDALE (Weekdays)

  • 20 A-LINE EXPRESS (Weekdays)
  • 33 SANATORIUM (Sunday)
  • 43 STONE CHURCH (Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday)

IMPROVED SERVICE CHANGES

2 BARTON (Sundays)
Additional service provided between 10am & 6pm

5 DELAWARE (Weekdays & Saturday)
Additional service to Dundas and Stoney Creek. Increased off peak service to Dundas has been implemented on Weekdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

5 DELAWARE (Sunday)
Additional service along the entire route including Dundas area. Increased off peak service to Dundas has been implemented on Weekdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays. On Sundays, service has been increased along the entire route for most of the day and is being provided to all tails of the route during most times of the day.

22 UPPER OTTAWA / 24 UPPER SHERMAN (Saturday)
After 9pm, an additional vehicle was added to improve schedule adherence

25 UPPER WENTWORTH / 26 UPPER WELLINGTON (Weekday)
Additional service provided between 5pm and 7pm

27 UPPER JAMES (Saturday)
Additional service provided between 5pm and 7pm

9 ROCK GARDENS
This route operates between Sunday May 12th (Mother’s Day) and November 10th.

 

56 CENTENNIAL RESUMES SERVICE TO WILD WATERWORKS
Now that Wild Waterworks has opened for the summer season this route will now enter the water park during regular business hours. Visit the website for the park at www.conservationhamilton.ca for more details and park hours.

 

99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE RESUMES JUNE 23RD
The start to summer also brings the return of the FREE waterfront shuttle, which provides daily service from downtown Hamilton to Pier VI. Buses run every 30 minutes between 10am and 9pm until Labour Day and feature the unique HSR replica trollies.

The bus operates from downtown on King St. opposite Summers Lane then travels westbound on King, northbound on Bay, eastbound on York, northbound on James, eastbound on Guise to Discovery Drive. Returning downtown buses travel southbound on James to King.

During the Tall Ships 1812 Tour from June 28th – 30th the shuttle will provide more frequent and extended service. 99 WATERFRONT SHUTTLE will operate from 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM on those days.

 

SUMMER YOUTH PASS AVAILABLE
Elementary/ Secondary students age 19 and under (as of September 1st of the given school year) are eligible to purchase a bus pass that is valid from July 1st to September 3rd for a very low cost of $71.

The youth pass will be distributed to HSR vendors in the middle of June. They are NOT available at the HSR Customer Service Centre. Students must present a valid student photo ID when using this pass.

 

UPCOMING PLANNED CONSTRUCTION DETOURS
Routes 5 DELAWARE (all branches) and 41 MOHAWK will be detoured when the City of Hamilton performs construction on the King/Kenilworth bridge, beginning sometime in July or August. The full effect this construction will have on HSR routes is unknown at this time, but detours and delays are expected. More details will be available closer to construction dates.

Route 35 COLLEGE will be detoured due to current construction plans which will result in the closure of Chester and Chelsey Streets. This route will be detoured via West 5th and Stone Church. Construction is expected to begin sometime in July or August.

Route 16 ANCASTER will detoured around Wilson street due to construction. This detour is set to begin sometime in July or August and will remain in effect until construction has completed.
