Limeridge Mall Transit Terminal to be redeveloped

Somewhat overlooked during the 2017 budget process among all of the hoopla with the endless LRT debate in Hamilton, as well as the deferral of the 10-year transit plan by council, are the other transit related notes hidden within the budget.

Many of the items that are listed in the budget are items that are partially being funded through the federal government’s PTIF, which stands for Public Transportation Infrastructure Fund. The fund pays for 50% of the capital costs of approved projects as long as the municipality picks up the remaining cost.

Projects included in this funding, which are approved in the 2017 capital budget, include “226 automated passenger counters” to accurately count actual transit usage and the “Design and planning of New Maintenance & Storage Facility in lower Hamilton.”

Around the Bay Road Race detours multiple routes March 26th

hsr_slider_atb_detour
This summarizes detours due to the Around the Bay Road Race. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30k run (approximately 9,000 runners entered) and a 5k run (approximately 2,500 runners entered).

THIRTY KILOMETRE RACE

The 30K race will start at York and Caroline and will continue east on York, north on James and east on Burlington Street (the diversion via Guise and Dock Service Road will not be used this year). The race will then exit Burlington Street to Woodward Avenue and then continue with the routing that has been used in previous years.

At 9:30 AM, the race starts at York/Caroline and proceeds as described above. No traffic will be allowed through on the cross streets while the runners are on James (Cannon and Barton) at the start of the race for a period of about 15-20 minutes while the runners clear the intersections.

What is the future of @HSRTransit and the Hamilton Transit Blog?

Serveral years ago I started working on a transit blog all about the HSR and transit in Hamilton. The goal of the blog was to curate and bring together relevant information about transit news and information for residents of the city of Hamilton into one place. With that in mind I also started a Twitter account @HSRTransit as well as several other social media profiles.

It took several years but the City of Hamilton finally got on board with an official Twitter account ( @HSR ) and they are doing a pretty good job with the account. It does everything that I was unable to do with the limitations I had. With the official account in place there isn’t a need for my day to day updates on social media and postings about HSR detours on the blog.

I knew this day would come as all things end and at least this chapter is coming to a close on a positive note. The city is finally joining the current century and is adequately keeping the public informed.

So what now?
