With the extreme cold set to chill the region down over the next few days, the Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton has issued a Cold Weather Alert effective January 20, 2014. A Cold Alert is issued when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below minus 15 degrees Celsius or minus 20 with wind chill.

As an effort to ease the burden of transit users waiting out in the cold both the City of Hamilton and GO Transit will be keeping their heated passenger waiting areas open later on extremely cold nights. The City of Hamilton will keep the MacNab Transit Terminal building open until the last bus departs at 1:20am. The final departure times for routes using the terminal are listed below:

Also GO Transit has announced that they will keep all GO Station buildings open until the last train or bus trip arrives. For the Hamilton GO Centre that means that the terminal building will be open until at least 3:55am over the next several nights. [[UPDATE: As of Sunday, January 26th the Hamilton GO Centre will not be staying open later than the usual closing time and will be closed at 11:00pm.]]
