Around the Bay Road Race detours multiple routes March 26th

hsr_slider_atb_detour
This summarizes detours due to the Around the Bay Road Race. As in past years, this event consists of both a 30k run (approximately 9,000 runners entered) and a 5k run (approximately 2,500 runners entered).

THIRTY KILOMETRE RACE

The 30K race will start at York and Caroline and will continue east on York, north on James and east on Burlington Street (the diversion via Guise and Dock Service Road will not be used this year). The race will then exit Burlington Street to Woodward Avenue and then continue with the routing that has been used in previous years.

At 9:30 AM, the race starts at York/Caroline and proceeds as described above. No traffic will be allowed through on the cross streets while the runners are on James (Cannon and Barton) at the start of the race for a period of about 15-20 minutes while the runners clear the intersections.

The following streets and/or lanes that impact transit will be closed while the race is in progress:

  • York Boulevard (between Hess and MacNab) – will be closed to all traffic. Registration for the runners will begin at 6 am on Sunday. This section of road will not reopen until after the completion of the race at approximately 4 pm.
  • York Boulevard (between) Dundurn and Hess – (eastbound lanes only) will be closed to all traffic from approximately 9 am to 4 pm.
  • York Boulevard (between MacNab and James) – will be closed between approximately 9:15 and 10 am only.
  • Bay Street (between York and King) – will be closed to all traffic between 6 am and 4 pm.
  • James Street (between York and Burlington) – will be closed to all traffic from approximately 9:15 to 10 am.
  • Burlington Street (between James and Hillyard) – all eastbound lanes will be closed from approximately 9:30 to 11 am.
  • Burlington Street (between Hillyard and Woodward) – one or two eastbound centre lanes will be closed to all traffic between approximately 9:30 am and 12 noon. The south curb lane will be maintained. While the race is on the upper portion of Burlington Street, local access will be maintained in both directions on the lower level.
  • Woodward Avenue – the northbound lanes (between Burlington and Eastport) will be closed to all traffic from approximately 9:30 am to 12 noon.
  • Beach Blvd. – the Burlington bound lanes will be closed from approximately 9:45 am to 1 pm. During peak times of the race, it may be necessary for Police to close the Hamilton bound lanes as well.

FIVE KILOMETRE RACE

The 5 kilometre race will start on Bay, south of York at 9:45 AM and proceed north on Bay, west on Cannon/York, looping just before the high level bridge and east on York to MacNab to finish inside First Ontario Centre.

As a result of the 5 kilometre race, all of the roads inside the course will be closed to all traffic between 9:45 AM and 10:30 AM. The HSR detours for both the 5k and 30k races start on the next page, in numerical order, by route. Please note that there are different closures, by route, by time of day depending on the streets that are closed.
